Happy Monday everyone! It's Peppermint with this week's Hodge Podge journaling challenge.

Since my entire life seems to be consumed by holiday preparations right now, I thought it would be fun if we did a page on one of our holiday traditions - past or present. Something a little more in-depth than "we exchange gifts" - document a tradition that's really personal to your family, whether it's a family recipe that you look forward to each year, an "elf on the shelf" or tree farm you visit every year to pick out the perfect tree.

JOURNALING:
It has quickly become one of our favorite Christmas 'traditions' We love plugging our faces onto the little elf bodies and watching them dance. Even as young as you guys are you love to sit and watch and laugh at all the funny dances and you ask me to play them over and over again. It is probably just a fad and years down the road we might have forgotten all about it, but while it's here we will take advantage of the opportunity to Elf Ourselves. 2010

Time

Hello all! It's Pam (Pamela Donnis) and I'm SOOOO excited to be one of the newest Hodge Podge girls!

Recently I read an ebook on time management called Tell Your Time (I wrote more about it here). It was different from all the other "time management" tips I've read because it discussed the internal change we must make if we are to use our time more wisely rather than the external (like that fancy new planner or app I'm always tempted to buy!).

Since reading Tell Your Time, I've thought a lot about "time"--the time I never seem to have enough of, the time I have with my quickly growing kids, the earthly time we have with our loved ones, etc. and SOOOO, you've probably guessed that this week's journaling challenge is to scrap about "Time."

I'm excited to see how YOU interpret this challenge.

JOURNALING:  I’m close to my grandma so it’s been important to me that my kids spend time and get to know her too. We were able to stay at her house for a few days this summer. It was the first time visiting since my grandpa passed. It was different and hard, but still sweet. We didn’t do much, just sat and chatted and watched the kids play and spent time together. Time together that is now so precious since I don’t know how much longer it will last.

JOURNALING: Most days I struggle to find a balance between things that must be done and things that can wait and things I should do but don’t want to do and things I want to do but feel guilty doing, and then I have these moments when I panic. And I realize that my kids are growing so fast, and their childhood-time is so limited. Nothing is as important as soaking up every moment I can with them.

For our challenge this week. It's scrappin the LETTER "V"! I was totally thrown off. I had no idea what I would scrap about. And then remembered this status that I put for my facebook page awhile back. "I need a Vacation from myself". Sometimes I tend to overload myself. And that particular day was overwhelming and I just wanted to get away from it all. I thought it was funny and so used that as my page for this week. However, I realized it would have worked for Gina's challenge last week on Vacations as well! LOL

Vacation Memories

Hey everyone! It's Gina posting and this might be my first post in oh, 2010 maybe. LOL! It's great to be back here. :)

I thought for this week we could scrap our vacation photos. Many times, we take so many amazing pictures on vacation and then when it comes to organizing or scrapping them, we just don't do it. For me, it's a combo of feeling overwhelmed and a bit lazy. ;)

JOURNALING: In August of 2005 we decided to take a 'babymoon' to Paris. We had such a wonderful time. We figured we must have walked about 25 miles or more during the week we were there. We looked at every tourist attraction there was and then some. And we never took the subway because we were afraid to miss anything. Every evening we would stop at this little crepe stand by our hotel and then crash in bed exhausted. I am not sure but I think if I had to pick my favorite thing about Paris it would have to be the Louvre. It was so amazing to see all of the priceless pieces of art. And we got to see the Mona Lisa which is something I will never forget. And the view from the Eifel Tower was just amazing. It was a wonderful vacation and I can't wait to go back.

Hello everyone!

Gabi's here bringing you another letter from our Alphabeth challenges serie. Today we are going to scrap letter U. At first I thought about word unique, I wanted to make a page about my little daughter but then I decided to create a page about my husband and me to celebrate our anniversary,  so I ended up with a word US. Journaling: This is US. Today exactly 11 years later after the day we met.So much has changed since that first day. Life is quite an adventure with you and I love every second of it. Thousands and thousands kilometres are behind us. We visited so many beautiful places and made so many unforgettable memories together. We are not only the two of us now, we are a family of four. We moved several times during the past couple of years and I can't wait to finally settle down in our new house soon. So many things have changed but one thing will always be the same: I love you! FOREVER.

 Journaling: This is the part of being a mom that I find the hardest. The times when it is up to me to teach you the lessons in life that are hard to take. And then watch you sad or angry because of it. I know these lessons are important and must be taught, but believe me when I tell you how much it hurts me to see you hurt. Even for the simplest reasons I hate it. You were upset with me when I took this picture because I was making you share a favorite toy with your brother and you wanted it all to yourself. No, not the end of the world by any means but I know that this is just the beginning and there will be many more times in the future that I will have to step in on much more important topics. I hope that somewhere inside yourself you know that I do it because I love you, not because I am trying to be unfair.

Your Favorite Word

Happy November to everyone! I'm starting off a new month with my very first challenge for Hodge Podge, and I'm excited by this challenge! I hope you are, too...and are excited about the chance to win a GC from Peppermint & Pamela Donnis!

The boys and I love to play with words, and do a word a week for our school, where we learn a new word and use it as much as we can. I realize that words have impact and evoke strong emotions, and I want the boys and I to have a broad range of words to help convey our feelings and thoughts in positive ways! And after watching a Youtube edition of Inside the Actor's Studio with James Lipton and Hugh Laurie (he's one of my not-so-secret TV must-see's), I was inspired by James Lipton's questionnaire, which includes, "What is your favorite word." 

So I challenge you.....scrap YOUR favorite word or phrase, whether it's shizzle, darn, warm, Mom, flubert or Oh, Snap! (technically that's 2, but we'll let you slide with that one.)

Journaling: The word “first-born” means so much more to me now than it ever did. I was my parents and grandparents first-born. They always told me that I held a special place in their heart being the first-born and I never really got what that meant until I had you. From the moment we knew you would be joining our family, I experienced new things with
you. You were my first child that I loved so completely and unconditionally. Now when my grandparents or parents say “first-born” to me, it means so much more because of you. I hope you come to the knowledge that I did...that being a first-born child and grandchild is a special thing and that you do hold a special place in my heart, and always will. I love you Bryleigh!

Journal: Time stands still for no man. Time heals all wounds. God works through the tapestry of time. These things are just going to take time. You can't go around it you have to go through it. Journaling: I have never seen anyone capable of getting a room dirty the way that you boys can. It doesn’t even take you long to do it. All you need is a few minutes alone with your boys and you can turn a perfectly clean room into something that looks like a mine went off. Journaling: You have loved kindergarten so far this year. You are so lucky because you have a wonderful teacher. Mrs. Warrick, she loves you children and absolutely loves teaching. She always has something fun planned for you kids to work on. The first few weeks of school was all about Teddy Bears. You dressed them, you played games with them. You even took your favorite Teddy to school. At the end of the month you had a Teddy Bear Picnic and even took your cute Teddy Bears on a Parade! Kindergarten is so much FUN!

Journaling: When i was in college, the entire last semester was spent doing my student teaching. I was so lucky to be assigned to Mrs. Dotsie Alexander's 2nd grade class. I learned more during that 9 weeks than I learned in 4 years of classroom studies. These kids are all grown up now but I can still remember them all so well. My student teaching experience was fantastic!

Journaling: in two thousand two i graduated from byu-hawaii with a bachelors degree in social work. i never really had planned to go into social work, but when i made the decision, it felt right. i only worked in that field until two thousand four, right before bryleigh was born. but the things that i learned while was in school and those few years after were invaluable. because of my social work background, i have learned about human behavior and what makes people tick. i'm able to really see people and why they do what they do. it may not help me have any more tolerance for it, but i can usually figure out why people act the way they do. i'm grateful for my education and for the life lessons it has taught me! journaled 10.18.2010

Journaling: I've always felt a need for a creative outlet, which is why I suppose I was first drawn to scrapbooking when pregnant with Ryan. I loved the idea of documenting my new baby's life, all while layering brilliant patterned papers and ribbons, arranging flowers, buttons, and felt elements, and then painting, glueing, doodling, inking, embossing, sewing, stapling, or stamping.

If I wasn't scrapbooking, I was usually devouring layout magazines, taking pictures, or journaling in preparation for my anticipated creative play.

Looking back on my life as a new mom I think I must have had post-partum depression. While I adored my baby who had come to us after a difficult four-year struggle with infertility and miscarriage, and greatly appreciated my opportunity to be a mother, I was sad and lonely. A lot.

Scrapbooking during naptimes became a therapy for me as I adjusted from well-respected career woman to under-appreciated stay-at-home mommy. It gave me the energy I needed to get through the next round of breastfeeding and poopy diapers by helping me notice the moments I knew I'd want to remember. It helped me see the good in my new stay-at-home life and gave me the creative outlet I needed to express these feelings. As I experimented with different styles and techniques, my confidence and knowledge of myself grew.

Now that we have three kids I have a lot less time to scrapbook but it's still a passion and even if I can't get to the creating part, I still try to jot down notes or sketch out an idea for a future page before the memory is lost.

Journaling: Everyone is all grown up now and living lives of their own. Even my husband has his own degree it's kinda scary, kinda thrilling, kinda giving myself a pat on the back.  I don't really know what my whole future will hold but I am back in school to finish my own degree.
